Dutch installation artist/political activist Jonas Staal has made a career of making people angry, with projects like roadside ''monuments'' featuring the face of a notorious right-wing politician, and Car Bomb Wreckage, in which he exhibited the debris from two Iraq car bombings as sculpture in Rotterdam. This book is a collection of texts, pamphlets and manifestoes either written by Staal or by an international group of critics and curators inspired, infuriated, transformed or amazed by his work. No matter what their viewpoint, the contributing authors focus, literally and figuratively, on the formulation of new forms of resistance against the culture of irony -- a field in which Staal is an undisputed leader.
