The series was created by Terry Nation, a prolific television writer and creator of the Daleks for the television series Doctor Who. Four series (or seasons) of Blake's 7 were produced and broadcast between 1978 and 1981. The series follows the exploits of a group of political renegades, led by freedom fighter Roj Blake. It was inspired by sources like The Dirty Dozen, Robin Hood, Brave New World, Star Trek, classic westerns and real-world political conflicts in South America and Israel. Chris Boucher was the series' script editor, who wrote portions of the dialogue and characterisation, while Nation wrote the story outlines, and a script writer during the third and fourth series after Nation moved to the United States.
