African Exposure: Health Problems and Politics takes the reader on a journey to the pygmy villages of 1962 and to the Zulu camp of 1995, as well as to the wildlife safari in South Africa and Botswana. The author tells of his experiences practicing medicine in remote areas of the Congo as a member of the Russian medical expedition in 1960 and 1962 and consultant on measures of tuberculosis control as an American expert in 1994 and 1995. Also presented in this book are non-conventional analyses of African socio-economic, political, and public health problems in a historical perspective up to the present time. Critical comments regarding the control of the HIV/AIDS and TB epidemics may be of interest to the general public. Although critical about the leadership in some African countries, the author expresses optimistic views on the future of the continent and its potential role in the world community.
