From choosing to have natural childbirth in the 1950's, to majoring in Physics at McGill University, to earning her PhD in Math Education at age 45, Bernice Bloom Kastner has always been a woman ahead of her time. These colorful stories with their Yiddish roots emanate from a woman grounded in calm confidence. Bernice demonstrated leadership early, as president of her high school class, and, later, as chief negotiator of the faculty team for her college. Still involved in the Math Department at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, B.C., Canada, Bernice continues an active life that involves regular gym workouts in addition to professional activity. She remains an optimist, a gourmet cook, an accomplished knitter, and an endless source of inspiration to her family and friends.
