It relates real-world lives to performance and depicts interaction with patrons to emphasize that there is more to the men than beauty. Each man is represented by a sonnet and a biographical note. When appropriate, there is also a translation of the poem. The book of one hundred sixty-seven English sonnets and accompanying biographies, seventy-five translations (into twenty-four languages), and eighty pages of glossaries, indexes, and other text. A follow-up edition, illustrated with photographs of the actual guys, is planned.
