These are settings, for voice and piano, of poems by Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, concerning infidelity -- interestingly, Elizabeth Barrett uses the more male centric conception of freedom and liberty -- almost like what you would see in a Lully opera -- and the Robert Browning cycle is a poignant lament filled with increasing rage of a wife who feels the growing estrangement of her husband.
