Despite the massive international disaster and relief operation, the long-term needs of displaced communities are still not being addressed for the majority of homeless people. Viable housing alternatives and sanitation systems are urgently needed for families. Currently, there are inadequate makeshift tarps, and tents that are not meant as permanent housing. The cholera epidemic is spreading rapidly due to the rainy season and the flooding and spreading of water-borne diseases.
