From the moment this five year old boy wakes up at the start of WWII to the day he leaves for America fifteen years later, one is spellbound watching him hiding from the Nazis, losing his parents, being raised by indifferent family, having a major accident, and coming to a reluctant conclusion about his sexual orientation. This is really an Ann Frank story with a surprisingly Ohappy ending.
