Follow the author through his military experiences, part of which cover nearly one year of combat, from the Normandy beachhead to the engaging of Russian soldiers at the Elbe River. Howie moved to Southern California from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, his birthplace, in a 1954 transfer and promotion offered by his employer, American Appraisal Associates, and has continued as an independent contractor for his company to the present day. He resides in La Mirada with his wife of 61 years, Murphy (nee Whelan) Beach. They have five children, eleven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Their descendants' homes are located across the width of America; California, Utah, New Mexico, Colorado and Massachusetts.
