It paints vivid pictures of various settings from rural Ireland in the early 1940's to industrial England and pre revolutionary Iran. It is the story of a woman who manages to triumph through the strength of her own inner powers, when after the unexpected death of her first son; she was left to regain her emotional strength without any help from her family. The writer has many very touching and sometimes humorous stories to tell. She explains a life of love and tolerance which in persuit of happiness had led her into a secret marriage to a suave and charming Iranian student, which proved to be a most fatal attraction. She then goes on to tell of the time spent with him and their two children in his country of Iran.
