Indridi Einarsson grew up on a farm and when he went to college he studied political science. Sword and Crozier is a drama in five acts, set in the district of Skagafirth, in the north of Iceland. The action takes place during the winter previous to the battle of Hunafloi, 1244 A.D. Sword and Crozier was the first Icelandic play to be translated into English. The play opens with the chieftain of the northern quarter of Iceland on his deathbed. His kinsmen have gathered to hear how he will divide up his possessions and how they will continue to defend their land.
