The recent Barker Report (2004), ' Review of Housing Supply' , and the government's Sustainable Communities Plan have given the topic of housebuilding new policy relevance. There is little published which analyses the supply side of the housebuilding industry - and in particular its concentration into the large volume companies which now have 40% of market share.The standard works on the building industry make virtually no mention of the influence of housebuilders on the development of the industry; academic literature has even stated that such an analysis is not possible.
