It All Began in 1969, more than four decades ago, when James A. "Jim" Frost sold a pocketknife to one of his coworkers, who selected his purchase from a small inventory Jim carried to work in his lunch bucket. It was an inauspicious start for what would one day become one of the world's leading cutlery merchandisers and manufacturers, the Frost Cutlery Distributing Company LLC. Back then, Jim worked the third shift at the Farmers Chemical fertilizer manufacturing plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee. A hardworking family man with an incurable passion for knives and for selling, Jim carried his wares to work in his lunch bucket and every day, he recalls, "At lunch and on my breaks, I'd sell pocketknives to my coworkers." It was the simplest business model imaginable and one that offered several key advantages, not the least of which was that after every sale, Jim's customers paid for their purchases and took delivery right on the spot. Most importantly, it worked.
