From 2001 to 2006, peripatetic artist Fritz Haeg (of Edible Estates fame) hosted a series of gatherings known as Sundown Salon in his geodesic domed residence in the hills of Los Angeles. Haeg's own activities include radical gardening, housing design, curation, grassroots education and political activism; such pursuits dovetail nicely with his salons, at which participants did everything from knitting to dancing. Over the years dozens of artists and orgnizations participated, including Assume Vivid Astro Focus, Anna Sew Hoy, Feral Childe, Eve Fowler, Katie Grinnan, Janfamily, Pipilotti Rist, robbinschilds and KnitKnit, LTTR, K48 and index magazines. Sundown Salon, a beautifully constructed document of those activities, is just as polymorphous, serving as both a book and an exhibition.
