In February, 2001, performance artist Michael Landy spent a couple of weeks in a publicplace destroying every single one of his possessions. This book is a detailed list - andonly a list - of everything he destroyed: 7227 items in all, ranging from a roll of faxpaper to a car to a Damien Hurst resin paperweight. When all was reduced to rubble, heburied the remains, weighing 5.75 tons, in a landfill site. This audacious project (a TheTimes/Artangel commission) raises intriguing questions about the nature and value ofour possessions, how hard it is to acquire stuff, and how hard it is to get rid of it.
