Book DescriptionAn unprecedented collaboration between the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and the College of Architecture and the Arts at the University of Illinois at Chicago resulted in the architectural project Between the Museum and the City: Garofalo Architects . Chicago-based architect Douglas Garofalo, a significant emerging talent, was commissioned to design and construct a temporary architectural space that would enliven the museum's plaza, making it a bridge between the museum and the city of Chicago. The final design emerged after an unusually diverse group of people had participated in small sessions and public forums. Cultural theorists, museum workers, educators, urban planners, engineers, city officials, college and high school students, artists, and sponsors all contributed to the design, execution, and documentation.
