A Reference Guide to Banking and Finance covers the areas of consumer credit; domestic monetary policy; economic stabilization; financial institutions? supervision, regulation, and insurance; general oversight and renegotiations; housing and community development; international development institutions and finance; and international trade, investment and monetary policy. The reference guide is not meant to be exhaustive but rather to define those terms most often used in congressional deliberations. Of special interest, definitions of numerous monetary and financial terms and organizations take into account changes resulting from enactment of the Garn-St. Germain Depository Institutions Act of 1982 and the Depository Institutions Deregulation and Monetary Control Act of 1980. Entries dealing with international trade, the international monetary system, and especially, international organizations provide many definitions that are not otherwise readily available.
