Environmentalist and author Doug Alderson shares the story of how he was driven by a vision and guided by a Cheyenne teacher named Bear Heart to lead a group of like-minded people in a walk 3800 miles across America through tribal lands in support of Native American rights, reconciliation, and environmental protection. Along the way they encounter many different tribes, attend ceremonies and sweat lodges, and learn first hand about the challenges Native Americans face today with alcoholism, encroaching government and private interests, and the loss of their traditional language and values. Througout the journey, Alderson relays the wealth of wisdom native cultures have to offer our ailing consumer culture.
