The author has tried to show the young man that the difference between pretty good and excellent, between low and high ideals, often measures the difference between a mediocre career and a superb success. He has tried to show that it is an easy thing to be a nobody, but a very difficult thing to be somebody. He has urged that the greatest investment a young man can make is in himself, that an education and self-culture pay; that health, good manners, cheerfulness and a genuine interest in others are great success factors; that character is the best kind of capital, giving credit, confidence and happiness.
