The British Trades Union Congress is the oldest national institution representing organised workers anywhere in the world. Founded in 1868, during the twentieth century it became a highly effective and influential body in war and peace, a virtual Estate of the Realm. Robert Taylor seeks to explain and assess many of the TUC's achievements over the past hundred years. In 1899 it was the TUC which took the lead in the creation of the Labour Representation Committee, which became the Labour Party six years later. Since the 1920s the TUC has sought to negotiate with governments of all political persuasions, seeking deals for union members at work. Often controversial, the TUC was never the obedient servant of a political party or ideology. Формат: 14 см x 21,5 см.
