Rewritten by the author fifteen years after its initial creation, "Quiet Days in Clichy" shows a different side of Miller from some of his more famous works such as "Tropic of Capricorn", as he depicts the bohemian life he enjoyed in his younger years in Paris with a fellow writer. Miller characteristically focuses on the seamier side of Paris, its seedy world of cheap sex, booze and destitution. The work captures the free-love spirit of a generation, and sheds light on the formative years of one of the most controversial writers of the twentieth century.
