John Scarlett (born 29 May 1947) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Geelong and South Melbourne. Scarlett was a fullback and his son Matthew plays in that same position for Geelong. Australian rules football, officially known as Australian football, also called football, footy or Aussie rules (and in some regions called-erroneously-AFL, after the Australian Football League, the only fully professional Australian rules football league) is a sport played between two teams of 22 players (18 on the field, and four interchanges) on either an Australian rules football ground, a modified cricket field or another modified sports venue.
