John Cunningham (born 22 November 1940) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn in the VFL. He was a member of the first ever Hawthorn premiership side, playing in the forward pocket in the Grand Final. Australian rules football, officially known as Australian football, also called football, footy or Aussie rules (and in some regions called-erroneously-AFL, after the Australian Football League, the only fully professional Australian rules football league) is a sport played between two teams of 22 players (18 on the field, and four interchanges) on either an Australian rules football ground, a modified cricket field or another modified sports venue.
