The World Figure Skating Championships is an annual figure skating competition sanctioned by the International Skating Union in which elite figure skaters compete for the title of World Champion. This event is considered the most prestigious of the ISU Championships. The 2006 Worlds were held at the Pengrowth Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada from March 19 to 26th, 2006. None of the gold medalists from the 2006 Olympics chose to contend. Stephane Lambiel, the only defending champion, won his event.
