Seiyo No Shorin-Ryu Karate Kobudo Kai is a traditional martial art created by Soke Dan Hausel. Hausel was of the opinion that most other arts had left the path of focusing on kata in karate and excluding competition, as competitions tended to be antipathic to development of focus and power. As a result, this style of shorin-ryu teaches its deshi how to develop a one-punch knock out similar to that taught in the past by the great Kokushinkai stylist - Mas Oyama. Seiyo Shorin-Ryu was certified as unique and independent by the Zen Kokusai Soke Budo Bugei Remnei in 1999 and by Dai-Soke Rod Sacharnoski. At that time, Soke Hausel was promoted to Kudan (9th degree black belt) by Dai Soke Sacharnoski of the US and Soke Shian Toma of Okinawa.
