November 23, 1990) was a Venezuelan professional baseball player. He played in Major League Baseball as a catcher for the Boston Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies and the Cincinnati Reds between 1977 and 1989. DA­az was the first Venezuelan catcher to play in Major League Baseball. DA­az was born in CA?a, Miranda, Venezuela. At the age of 14, he played on a national champion Little League team that missed a trip to the 1967 Little League World Series when an earthquake devastated Caracas. In December 1970, he was signed by Boston Red Sox as an amateur free agent.
