Book DescriptionA study of the writings of John Edward Bruce (1856-1924), who wrote for at least one hundred newspapers, usually under the pseudonym Bruce Grit. He was a black nationalist who sought to uplift his people through non-violent Civil Rights endeavors. In 1911 he joined forces with Arthur Schomburg to form what later became the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
