This is the eleventh in a series of thirty-four books telling the story of Monkey, adapted from the ancient Chinese fantasy novel Journey to the West. In the previous volume the Tang Priest had a dream in which the spirit of the former king of Wuji told how he had been murdered and his throne usurped by a vicious fiend. Monkey outwitted the fiend, restored both life and throne to the king and reunited the royal family. Catching the Red Boy, with seventy-eight illustrations in colour, tells how the Tang Priest is tricked by a demon who disguises himself as a boy. Monkey battles the demon but cannot defeat him because the demon uses more powerful magic, so Monkey sends Pig to fetch the Bodhisattva Guanyin. With her help Monkey finally conquers the demon and rescues his master.
