Macbeth was written between 1606 and 1607. It is one of the most famous tragedies of Shakespeare. It is based on story of one of the Kings of Scotland and dramatizes the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. Macbeth most clearly reflects the playwright's relationship with the patron of his acting company, James I.
