Large numbers of drugs have been used in local drug delivery system. These have their advantages as well as disadvantages. In the present write up an attempt will be made to assess the validity of the system. Local drug delivery system with controlled release properties have the potential to be used as a therapeutic component in the management of periodontal diseases. However, additional randomized, controlled studies are needed to help delineate the types of lesions, periodontal diseases, or specific situations where local delivery systems would be most beneficial.
