People form strong attachments to places where they are born or where they have spent most of their lives. Places are given meaning and remembered by our experiences in those places. There is a deep association with and the places where we were born and grew up, where we live now, or where we have had particularly moving experiences. This association is a point of departure from which we orient ourselves in the world.
