The afternoon light was fading as my sons and I found ourselves at the bottom of yet another canyon, trying to find that elusive bull elk we heard bugling a while ago. Looking up at the steep ridge we had to climb, we decided it was time to head up. So as night started falling, we started climbing, heading for the top of that ridge about eight hundred feet above us. Two hours later, we found ourselves at a flat spot we thought was the top, only to discover that ""There is no top!"" Mother Nature had again played a dirty trick on us. We were now faced with the decision of climbing another eight hundred feet in the dark or spending the night where we were. Our decision was hastened by the pack of wolves that was howling in the distance, seemingly nipping at our heels. We knew that wolves aren't particularly dangerous, but everything changes in the dark?so off we went in the dark, hoping to find the elusive top.
