As a little girl, I did not realize the damage done to me by being raised in a dysfunctional family. The strain that is sustained in adolescence through different misfortunes often serves as a catalyst into dysfunctional adulthood. It is not survival of the physical that is the most pressing but survival of the mind and spirit. Sometimes in a vision-like setting, I would see myself standing in the middle of a crowded room screaming for help, and it was as if I wasn't even there. It seemed as if rainless clouds surrounded me.
