The first of three novels follows young Vollan through his survival of sexual abuse at the hands of a sadistic uncle. At fifteen Vollan runs away with a much older man Richard Shuffer, a family friend. As Vollan begins to forge a new life and enters life in the spotlight that everything begins to change. He struggles to not only keep his past life a secret but he also has to keep covering up the bruises of a jealous partner. Vollan soon stands up to his abuser with a near fatal result. Suddenly every secret Vollan had suppressed becomes public knowledge.
