Stigma was too great for our elders to tell us what disease we may have when we become adults. We found out too late to prevent it from happening. None of us is a victim. We are all survivors of mental illness. We are living proof that recovery is possible. People need to know about our success, set-backs, stigma and sustainability. There would be an occasional sighting of Uncle Henry going out his special outside door, reserved for him. I never had an opportunity to talk with Uncle. He was off limits. He wasn't that old of a man but had no energy. Going up and down the stairway was a huge task. It reminded me of the days I experienced. Things started to make sense. I was told I had an Aunt the same way. A family of zombies! No, I had a good idea who I was related to. Their lifestyle was not my lifestyle and I continued on my path of prosperity and fame.
