This story begins and ends on the ninth floor of a prestigious corporate tower known as The Bank Centre, located on bankers' row of Brickell Avenue in Miami, Florida. On the second day of August in l982, a young executive at a big eight accounting firm sat musing on the ocean view that came as a bonus with his office decor. He had just driven to work from his comfortable, middle-class home in the suburbs, back to his white-collar world. He reflected for another moment in anticipation. It had been a month since he had entered the halls of Case, Walsh, Madison & Co., in this land of the all seeing Philistine. That alone was enough to give him a chill as he wondered whether anything or anyone had changed in his absence.
