The complete Siamese Buddhist Canon, called the Tipitaka, is written in the Pali language and consists of 45 large volumes. The Dhammapada is one of them. Although small in size when compared to the whole Canon, it is yet the most popular book among the Buddhist monks, nuns and laity in the East. It was edited and translated into Latin for the first time in 1855 by V. Fausboell. Since then several translations in European languages have appeared. The Dhammapada deals mainly with the Ethical Section of the Buddhist Doctrine, while the other two sections, namely, Concentration and Wisdom, are briefly summarized.
