Manik is a young Chromaran who feels like he doesn't meet his people's expectations...especially his father's. When he flees after being shamed in battle, he finds himself on board the cargo ship Kyoto Sunrise, with the eccentric Captain Victor Fujiwara, a motley crew of travellers, and the kind ship AI, SID. He must survive trials, adventures, and a trip to an undiscovered, dangerous, world. Manik must call on what he has learned from the crew of the Sunrise, and from his people on Chromara, if he is going to keep his friends alive, let alone ever to fi nd his way back home. Carl deSoto is a graduate of San Jose State University, in California, with a degree in Cultural Anthropology. He lives in Austin, Texas with his wife, two sons, two cats, and a dog. He enjoys playing MMORPGs, reading, playing paper-and-dice role playing games, and other various nerdy things. He makes a living as a QA Analyst, but moonlights as an author.
