Nicolas Camille Flammarion (1842-1925) was a French astronomer and author of more than fifty titles, including popular science works about astronomy, science, and several notable early science fiction novels, including Omega, about a comet colliding with the Earth, followed by several million years leading up to the gradual death of the planet. Omega was adapted into a 1931 film by Abel Gance.
