Edward William Lane (1801-1876) was a British Orientalist, translator and lexicographer. His bowdlerized translation of the One Thousand and One Nights was published in three volumes in 1840. His great-nephew, Stanley Lane-Poole (1854-1931), published encyclopedic annotations after Lane's death.
