Extra Light is a collection of light verse making frequent use of everyday aphorisms with the end result being a humorous one. The verses are comprised, for the most part,of either two or four lines. With one exception all of the verses are rhymed as is the case with most light verse. Hollis L. Cate was born and reared in Brunswick, Georgia. He received the A. B. degree from Presbyterian College and his masters and Ph.D. in English from the University of Georgia, He is Professor Emeritus of English from Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia. He has previously published two volumes of poetry as well as human interest articles on coastal Georgia and on Robert Frost.
