By the beginning of the twentieth century it was apparent that the force required to increase the speed of a beam of charged particles increases drastically as the speed of charged particles approach that of light- leading to the notion that either the charge decreases, or the mass increases with increasing speed. Einstein correctly concluded that it was neither. Instead he addressed the issue by replacing the classical kinetic energy of an object (mv2/2) with a 'relativistic kinetic energy' ( mc2/(1- 2)1/2). Einstein's kinetic energy formulation does not reduce to the classical kinetic energy as the speed of the object approaches zero- a situation long ignored. There is, however, an alternative formulation, derivable directly from a slightly revised version of Newton's 2nd law, which provides a kinetic energy similar to that of Einstein, which reduces to the classical kinetic energy at ordinary speeds. Also, in this book, a 'broadside' is leveled at the Lorentz transformation, and...
