Maxwell Gray was the pen name of Mary Gleed Tuttiett (1846-1923), an English novelist and poet best known for The Silence of Dean Maitland, about a small town clergyman who impregnates a woman out of wedlock, accidentally kills her father, and allows his best friend to take the blame.
