Set before and after events in the opal fields in the mid to late-20th century Australia and up and down the eastern seaboard, Opal Jack, orphaned at a young age, grows into a man who after a very rough start in life uses his wit, cunning and street smarts to forge himself a life of a gambling, cheating, womanising conman. He achieves this through manipulating the weak, the wealthy and people in high places to establish himself as an individual who gets what he wants by any means available.
