Craig T. Sheldon lived a life that bordered on the fantastic. Before he turned twenty-five, he escaped the poverty of his youth in Tennessee and ran away to Alaska where he panned for gold, worked on the railroad, bootlegged, and found adventure. After serving in the Marines during World War Two, he and his family moved to Fairhope, Alabama. Craig worked as a carpenter on houses and as a master woodworker; he is known for his unique carvings and the whimsical castle he built off Bayou Charbon. In 1947, Craig began writing "Knee Deep in Fly Creek with Sheldon" and published it semi-weekly in The Fairhope Courier for nearly four decades. Craig wrote about his experiences and his opinions on local and international events with the same thoughtfulness, irreverence, and unique wit, He also befriended L.W.
