Ten year old Marty Gibson hatches a plan he hopes will one day get him a 1936 Ford Roadster like the one his uncle once owned. Years later, he combs Pennsylvania and sixteen surrounding states for the rare old car before moving his search west. In 1961, the rookie state trooper hits the Roadster jackpot in greater Los Angeles. Although his find is completely disassembled, he's thrilled by the condition of the dusty, low mileage car. During the near week long reassembly, he has the misfortune of encountering two malicious individuals who, because he inadvertently angers them, fixate on destroying his discovery.
