PREFACE THIS little book is published in response to many appeals from readers of Cuunt Lye and The Garden for practical information in a handy form about the pansies of the garden, sweet violets, and the violets from mountain and plain. It is not the work of an individual, but is the outcome of information willingly given by those mentioned in this Preface, and of the many articles that have appeared in The Garden during the past few years. The show and fancy pansies have not been forgotten, and our warmest thanks are tendered to that veteran florist, Mr. Richard Dean, for so much practical and historical information about a type, which still kindles...............
