Following his escape from the doomed Neanderthal timeline of Tarmis, Joe Laing settles into a comfortable life with Ciara. However, Joe is restless and feels compelled to investigate the second time tunnel; Ciara insists on accompanying him. The tunnel leads to the distant past of the early Neanderthals, where they encounter the builders of the time tunnels. Though the builders are highly advanced, once again, Joe is welcomed as the 'Futama', and it is then that Joe and Ciara discover Joe's destiny, which is to lead his people in an uprising against the evil tyrant, Prua Landi. But Prua Landi does not intend to wait for the final confrontation; she is determined to find Joe and kill him . . .
