Chayce Jackson, a bounty hunter and former soldier in the Helix Federation Military, finds himself once more involved in the federation's affairs. He accepts a job from his brother Logan, who is the Admiral of the Federation's Starfleet, to track down the Clandorian assassin called Talon, who is responsible for the death of the Helix Federation leader, Chancellor Hodge. Chayce and his robot partner Crickett remain entangled in the political scene and find adventure as they are hired to find a rogue assassin robot called Reaper 7 and become targets themselves, along with his brother, as they attempt to bring an end to the crisis engulfing the Helix Federation government. Chayce's story continues in the short story ""Cricket's Mission"", where Chayce finds himself accused of the murder of a young woman he was bringing in, to collect the bounty posted on her head.
