Girl Child Saturday is a children's fantasy, appealing to children and to the child in all of us. Its style lends itself to being read to aloud to younger children. In the Forest, where all the animals and birds are known as the folk of the Forest, the main character, Girl Child Saturday, is a little mouse with an unusual talent of which she is not even aware. She is able to see into the heart of anything. Once the hierarchy of the Forest---Eagle, Badger and Armadillo---become aware of her gift, they call upon her to help avoid all sorts of dangers to the Forest and to the folk who live there. Each chapter, standing on its own, describes Girl Child Saturday's resolution of a particular crisis occurring in the Forest.
